Adopt an Artifact!

Adopt an Artifact! is a unique program offered by the St. Charles History Museum that allows people to “adopt” various artifacts from the Museum’s Collection. Artifacts may be adopted for up to a year and can be renewed. The revenue generated from this program directly supports the Museum’s preservation and conservation efforts in maintaining the artifacts in the Collection. When you adopt an artifact, you receive a certificate of adoption, high-resolution photos of your artifact, historical information about your artifact, a listing in The Charlemagne newsletter, and a label with your name on it next to the artifact in the Exhibit.

We are featuring artifacts from Pickle Packers International, the company that made St. Charles the “Pickle Capital of the World” during the 1950s-90s!

Alice Davis Collection

Alice Davis was an educator in St. Charles during the early 20th century.

The main artifact up for adoption is a school play she wrote about St. Charles history called, “A Hundred Years And More.”

Anti-Slavery Society Record Book

The Anti-slavery Society of Kane County was highly influential in the abolitionist movement and Underground Railroad efforts. This is their record book from the 1840s.

Charles Haines Collection

Charles Haines was a prominent business man in St. Charles’ early history. He served as Mayor from 1889-1891. He donated his wealth and land to the School District so that it could expand.

The main artifact up for adoption is a photo of his pet dog.
